Kiss. Fries. Toast.
Three words made all the more interesting with the prefix of French. Just like me (I hope)! I sound French, grew up in France and even have a French name, by all accounts I’m French, but there’s a twist to the tale.
I was born in America just like those three little words. I came into the world close to Washington DC, but my American life was cut short when my parents moved back to France when I was one year old.
As a kid, being American simply meant having to write a special area code in admin documents.
That’s it.
No stars & stripes, no baseball, no twinkies... just a different area code. I was only born there,
what does that matter, right?
So after flying my French nest I spent a few amazing years in London, all the while, I couldn’t help feeling slightly envious of the three little words over there with their rich State Side story... All I have is a lousy zip code.
Curiosity has finally gotten the better of me. It’s time for me to experience the US of A. From the Big Smoke to The Big Apple.
America, here I am!

N.Y.Chloe is a self-commissioned project by designer Chloé Maes. It constitutes a starting point to her move to the USA, setting a basis for a visual research around the notions of double nationality, cultural discovery and sense of home through the medium of Graphic Design.
N.Y.Chloe is a self-commissioned project by designer Chloé Maes as a starting point to her move to the USA. It sets a basis for a long term research on the themes of double nationality, cultural discovery and sense of home through the medium of Graphic Design.
It so far involves a small run of fanzines, the present online experiment and a TumblR blog.
This is only the beginning and the possibilities in terms of where will the project go are wide open. It might turn out to be a serie of passionate essays about M&Ms flavours in America… who knows? Stay Tuned!
